This week we get to know John Docherty, Principal of Rhodes Docherty...

• My areas of specialisation:
  • Risk analysis, investment structuring, strategy and selection, valuations.
• Before I became a financial planner/accountant:
  • Motor Bike riding Hippie / Long haired beared student
• My greatest achievement as a Hillross financial planner:
  • Making the right calls, picking trends and beating benchmarks.
• Something you may not know about our practice is:
  • 6 languages spoken , 3 choral singers, 7 team members with over 10 years service, Degrees galore ranging from Science, Enviromental law, Theology, Mathematics, Commerce / Law (undergrads) plus a host of Commerce, economics and Accounting Degrees and Masters.
• If I could switch places with anyone for one day, I would switch with:
  • Jeremy Clarkson - Top Gear
• What traits do you most dislike in others:
  • Arrogance
• What 5 things could you not live without:
  • Family (my wife, 4 children and grandson).
  • My running shoes and dog
  • A good book on a sunny afternoon in back yard
  • Sharing ice cream with my grandson
  • Fast cars!
• Best holiday ever:
  • Most relaxing France, Most exotic Egypt
• First ever job:
  • Concretor then Petrol Pump attendant
• Any claims to fame:
  • Competed in and finished a national half iron man event last year (2.2km swim, 80km bike, 22km run). Whilst I finished last in the swim I genuinely felt like a true iron man! Not realising the event was for serious champions I bought my first wet suit the day before and wore it for the first time in the race – getting seriously sea sick from the bobbing around!
• My last meal would have to be:
  • Fish and three veg
• Something that most people don't know about me:
  • Eldest son in a family of nine that migrate from UK in 1966.
